Hate Talk Express was established when it became clear that the 2008 election cycle was likely to feature constant instances of overt and covert racism. As a way to lesson the impact of such disgusting speech in the political process, Ben Stanfield registered the domain and started building the site, offering visitors and registered users a place to catalog and collect incidences of hate speech in the campaign, hoping that the publicity and sunlight will deaden their impact, and convince others not to resort to such tactics.
The site is a wiki, so anyone can add a topic and if site moderators think it warrants, it will be promoted to the front page. However, there are some things to keep in mind when creating topics:
* Hate Talk Express exists to catalog and critique instances of overt and covert racism and other hate speech by public figures or groups. Anonymous, uncorroborated, hearsay, and private incidences are not suitable for Hate Talk Express. In most cases, an attempt to find a journalistic source citing the incident is preferred.
* There are several categories of pages on The Hate Talk Express: Incidents, People, Organizations. Each incident should have it's own wiki page. If it's attributable to a specific person, a page for that person, linking to the incident, should be created, as well. If it's an organization or company, a page should be created for that organization, and then linked to the incident. Some incidents may involve all three kinds of pages.
